While I’ve always enjoyed spending time with friends and family, I’ve learned that I truly appreciate the experience of spending a day with a stranger. Our friends, family, and coworkers are often a lot like we are. Sometimes we meet strangers that share common interests but the ones I enjoy the most are the ones who are so different than I am that I learn something or maybe even teach them something.
Several years ago, Brenda and I joined Couchsurfing Link to our Couchsurfing Profile
If you’re not familiar with Couchsurfing, it’s a kind of “pay it forward” community for hosting travelers and possibly being hosted when you travel. Hosting and surfing has proven to be one of our favorite pastimes and, while all of the stories I share may not come from surfing experiences, I will say that we’ve met some really incredible people though the process and that it was the basis for my idea of writing a book that I will call “A Day with a Stranger”.
I will occasionally publish a blog post that may or may not become a chapter of the book. As for now, I’m making no promises as to how long it will take to write and when or if I’ll ever publish it but it is likely that some of the content from this blog may eventually become a part of the book.
PS: I think I mentioned that part of the purpose for the journey is to figure out what I want to be when I grow up – maybe a writer?? I’m hoping that this website may develop into something that could someday produce a bit of income. If you’d like to help, please make nice comments on the posts and use the link at the bottom of the website to subscribe to the blog – the more views and subscriptions, the better my chances will be. Thanks for your support and hope you enjoy some of the stories!
